Whiteboard Friday – “Fridata The 13th”

Happy Friday the 13th Gang!

Funny isn’t it, the luckiest day of the century (7/7/7) being followed so closely by what many consider to be among the unluckiest days of the year?  Anyway, many of us in the SEO world did have a momentary scare yesterday when Yahoo! Site Explorer, and all the juicy link data that goes with it, ceased to function for a while.

This week, Rand talks with Tom Schmitz of Portent Interactive about what SEOs would, could and should do if, horror of horrors, we actually did lose access to Yahoo!’s link data. I’ve composed a nightmarish Whiteboard montage to help you all visualize the carnage.

Rand and Tom also discuss Pythia, Portent’s new analytics tool they’ve just released into Beta.  I’ve included a screencap below. Alas, since I don’t have an access code, it’s not the greatest. I anticipate Rand (who seems to have the keys to everyone’s houses) will replace it with something much more juicy.

Here’s a sneak peek at Pythia Analytics for those who wish to check it out:

UPDATE from Rand: Your wish is my command, Scott. Pythia’s cool because it tracks your progress over time, so if you’ve used it once and check it again, the old data will be available so you can watch progress. As Tom says in the video, if your site is getting lots of mentions in social media, yet you’re not getting more conversions (or links that lead to rankings that lead to conversion), you might need to re-think your strategy.
